about

I met Peppa a few years back. I did a road trip from the east to the west coast. My camera was stolen in New York and I broke my smartphone a few days later. So I just had my pencil, notebook and guitar to capture the moments.
One evening a few hours from Colorado I sat down at a bar. Peppa worked there and we started a conversation and talked all night. She was funny and interested, but at the same time she seemed mysterious. Although she told a lot about herself, I couldn’t grasp her in total. This talk with Peppa is one of the encounters of this trip, which moved me most.
Especially the deep melancholy in her smile and voice is a vivid memory. It is the inspiration for so many lyrics, which try to capture and empathize this smile. Some of those lyrics evolved into songs. Songs which tell about the smile of Peppa Lee.

Track Name: Peppa Lee
She came into town when I was 17
she was this quite girl. Even shy it seemed
But we didn't need to talk, so we became best friends
But she never took me home, never met her parents

I heared rumors about the screems at night,
about the broken bottles in countless fights
I was curious about the scar above her left eye
In retrospect it wasn't even the first sign

Oh Peppa Lee, oh Peppa Lee,
Where did you go
Nobody seems to care at all, but I miss you so

I've got a call from a friend late last night
I've started running to your house, when I arrived
Covered in blue light they carried out a corpse
Such a relief it wasn't yours

Oh Peppa Lee, oh Peppa Lee,
Where did you go?
Nobody seems to care at all, but I miss you so

I hope you're safe now. I hope you'll find your peace
I hope it feels like a victory. I hope...

Oh, Peppa Lee
Track Name: Never Go Back
I can see the storm in her eyes
Tired sunken in the backdrivers seat
Where are you heading, where do you go
A long pause. A look. Before the answeres come

I never had a plan but go west
But change doesn't happen until it hurts at last
So last night I left what they called home
Grabbed my bag and their money. Flew where I never felt welcome

No I never, I never will go back
No I never, I never will go back

I dreamt of Portland, I dreamt of L.A.
Never been there but it's better than staying here
No, I don't think anyone will miss me back home
I'm a lonesome soul for so long

No I never, I never will go back
No I never, I never will go back
Track Name: Second Heart
It's been a long night, a long year
Pour me a drink before I take of my mask
I don't mind smiling all the time
It's my heart I'm worried about

When you turn away from your past
When you walk another street
When you hide behind your second heart
You know it can never be the same

Can you hear my second heart
I know it's slightly out of synch
Can you feel my second heart
I know it will never heal again

The night is darkest before dawn
I'm glad I passed that point
But I'm still waiting for the sun
And for my heart to be calm again

When you turn away from your past
When you walk another street
When you hide behind your second heart
You know it will never be the same

Can you hear my second heart
I know it's slightly out of synch
Can you feel my second heart
I know it will never heal again
Track Name: Dance With Me
There is no place I would call home
Since my house burned down
I have wandered the earth
But didn't settle down

Since I have met you
I feel so calm

So dance, dance, dance with me
Dance till the music is over
Dance, dance, dance with me
Cause we belong together

When I was your age
I thought I couldn't fall
But now that I'm older
I know there is no heart without scars

There are times to heal the wounds
And this time is now

So dance, dance, dance with me
Dance till the music is over
Dance, dance, dance with me
Cause we belong together
